The annual Toast to the Coast festival will again be held over Melbourne Cup weekend, but this year’s event is set to offer an exciting new format with more options to discover Geelong’s world-class wine.
The celebrated two-day festival – one of the most anticipated events on the local calendar – showcases the very best in cool-climate wines and gourmet food from around the Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast and Bellarine Peninsula, with the Saturday all about touring the wineries and visiting cellar doors, while the Sunday will see 19 wineries offer 60 wines all at one iconic Geelong venue, The Pier.
Wine Geelong president Robin Brockett said that the event offered an incredible regional experience with patrons able to taste their way across a diverse selection of award-winning Geelong wineries.
“Now in its 18th year, we continue to focus on making the Toast to the Coast festival a premium experience that attracts wine lovers from all over the country – with Geelong being just an hour from Melbourne and Avalon Airport conveniently located at the gateway to the region – making Toast to the Coast one of the most anticipated events on the wine calendar.
“Every year we have been fortunate with the weather and it’s such a good opportunity to bring together family and friends for the weekend. All of the wineries want to provide a great experience to really showcase all that our region has to offer.”
Wine Geelong executive officer and events manager Jo Wealands, encouraged patrons to pack a picnic rug for the Saturday and enjoy tastings, mouth-watering gourmet catering and food trucks, as well as live music across the Moorabool Valley and Bellarine Peninsula.
“Each cellar door will deliver a program highlighting the unique experience to be found at their venue, with plenty of free samplings, winery and vineyard tours, new wine releases and rare back-vintage tastings. Ticketholders can take their pick of 17 participating wineries across 12 locations, with various transport options to ensure patrons can pack as much as possible into their day.
“Sunday will offer all of the much-loved elements of the traditional Toast festival minus the travelling so patrons can enjoy much more of the region without having to painstakingly choose. Spend your day sampling wines from across all three regions with stunning views of the Geelong waterfront.
“Lucky ticketholders will enjoy taste sensations from 19 local wine producers, with plenty of delicious food on offer and complimented by the smooth tones of live jazz bands at The Pier, during either a morning or afternoon session.
“Tickets include an enviable Plumm glass to take home and wine will also be available by the glass or bottled, and look out for great specials to stock your cellar for delivery after the event.”
