Torquay Boardriders toast world title win at Easter lunch
Torquay Boardriders president Tully Wylie says the club is in its best ever position and is riding the momentum wave off their recent world title win.
The club celebrated its monumental achievement at its Easter Luncheon last week, sharing the honour with the more than 250 guests and sporting luminaries in attendance.
Led by 2026 Rip Curl Pro wildcards Xavier Huxtable and Ellie Harrison, Torquay was victorious in the Usher Cup World Club Championship at Snapper Rocks in February.

Following years of falling narrowly short of landing in first place, Torquay put the event out of doubt with some remarkable surfing.
Wylie said he was still in shock at the club’s “iconic” achievement.
“I can’t really describe how amazing it is to lead this club and see us have the success we are having,” he said.
“We won something no club has ever won before, and now we are the world champions!
“It’s one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed, and we will remember it forever.”
The Torquay Boardriders Easter Luncheon is the club’s biggest annual fundraiser.
Special guests on the day included Geelong Cats gun Bailey Smith, Olympic gold medallist Jakara Anthony and Championship Tour surfer Connor O’Leary.

“This was our sixth function of this kind, and the money is going towards us producing more world championship teams,” Wylie said.
“All funds will go directly towards athletes at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, coaching sessions and a girls surf day at URBNSURF Melbourne.”

Fundraising totals from the day are still being calculated.
