A SHORTEN Labor government would invest $444,000 towards the instalment of a new synthetic bowling green at the Torquay Bowls Club.

Labor’s Corangamite contender Libby Coker took to the club last Tuesday evening to make the commitment.

Ms Coker said the investment would benefit both members and casual participants so the club can “keep up” with “rapid growth in participation”.

“Torquay Bowls Club was established more than 90 years ago and its longevity is a testament to the important role it plays in the Surf Coast community,” Ms Coker said.

“Over the past few years, this club has seen enormous growth. Labor’s investment in a new synthetic green will ensure that the club is able to keep up with its growing membership as well as casual participation from locals and visitors.”

Labor’s pledge slightly improves on the pledge of $406,000 made by Liberal Corangamite federal member Sarah Henderson for the same project.

Ms Henderson made the commitment with Prime Minister Scott Morrison when he visited the club with her in mid-April.
