Torquay brewery shuts down, seeks buyers
SOU’WEST BREWERY, a craft brewery and restaurant located in Torquay’s former Quiksilver head office, has ceased operations as it entered voluntary administration.
Craig Shepard and Andrew Knight from KordaMentha were appointed as the administrators today.
The brewery which opened in May 2021, is nestled in the heart of Torquay’s surf retail precinct at Baines Crescent.
It was known for its expansive setup featuring a large beer hall, play area, tasting pavilion, and an open-air terrace.
The location, the site of the former Quiksilver headquarters, had been transformed by Award-winning Melbourne architectural firm Ewert Leaf into a vibrant community gathering spot.
The American-built brewing equipment system has been described as among the best in the world and the bottling system is Italian.
According to Mr Knight, the decision to shut down and lay off all staff was unavoidable.
“Unfortunately, the Administrators had no alternative but to cease operations and terminate all staff immediately, however, are hopeful there is someone out there who may be interested in buying the assets and restarting the business.”
Further details regarding the administration process and future updates will be available on KordaMentha’s website.
