Torquay Coast eager for continued growth
THE Surfcoast Basketball Association’s (SBA) newest incorporated club is ready to get its winter and summer domestic seasons underway following its 2023 season launch.
Torquay Coast Basketball Club has been a committed participant to local basketball competitions since it produced its inaugural team in 2019, but president Peter Withers is excited to see the club continue to expand throughout 2023 and into 2024.
“Right now we have 83 players in 11 teams heading into next season,” he said.
“We are proud of the success we have achieved since our inception, and we are excited for what the future holds for us.
“Our teams currently compete in the SBA local domestic competition but will aim to enter some of our junior teams into the 2023/24 Geelong United Basketball Summer Season in what is an exciting next step for the club.”
Close to 200 players, parents, committee members and supporters attended the season launch on Sunday to receive an update on the season ahead, while also getting a sneak peak of the club’s newly designed uniform, modelled after NBA side the Golden State Warriors.
“Our players can expect to get their new uniforms roughly five weeks into the new season, at some stage in May I’d say,” Mr Withers said.
“But the season launch was huge for us, when planning it we didn’t expect it to be that big.
“All of our players received a free shirt with the club’s new branding on it, which we hope is a sign of the exciting times ahead.”
