Torquay Community House gives space to grow
Torquay Community House’s mission is to provide a place where all members of our community can grow, develop and have their lives enriched.
The All Abilities Community Kitchen allows people of all experience levels to gain skills and confidence; new members are always welcome.
When our coffee shop, The Friendly Bean, opens later this year we hope to expand this program to offer barista and hospitality training for people with disabilities and the long-term unemployed. Accredited training in Responsible Service of Alcohol and Food Handling is available so contact us if you need to arrange staff training.
Whether you want to study for a career or simply try a hobby that’s always interested you, the community house offers a range of opportunities to live and learn locally.
May is a particularly busy month with several events to acknowledge significant dates.
On May 17 from 5.30pm, celebrate IDAHOBIT day with drinks and nibbles. Local poet and author John Barlett will read from his latest book.
Reconciliation Week will be commemorated with a supper and guest lecture by Corrina Eccles, Cultural Education Co-ordinator from Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation, starting 7pm on Wednesday May 29.
For National Volunteering Week we will be one of five community houses across the Surf Coast that will all host morning teas for volunteers in their area at 11am on Wednesday May 22. Volunteers across the community are invited to meet other volunteers, network and enjoy a well-earned tea break!
