THE Sands Torquay has hit another hole in one with its whopping fundraising efforts at its annual #DoingItForJarrod day.

More than 90 people wore a touch of yellow on Friday last week and helped raise more than $10,000 for children’s cancer charity Challenge.

Since its inception in 2019, the event has honoured the legacy of Torquay golfer Jarrod Lyle.

The former PGA Tour golfer passed away in August 2018, about a week after deciding to stop treatment for cancer for a third time and enter palliative care.

Among the fundraising on the day, attendees enjoyed 18 holes of golf, a lunch banquet and dessert, as well as raffles and auctions.

The Sands golf operations manager Mat Mackay said it was again another fantastic day of fundraising for a beautiful cause.

“Despite pretty ordinary golfing conditions, it was just a phenomenal day with a total of 92 players, which was incredible.

“To have that sort of field on a day like it was just demonstrates how much of an impact Jarrod had on the golfing world and the highlighted the amazing work Challenge do in helping families get through challenging times when a loved one has cancer.

“To raise over $10,000 is a great effort… raising money is one thing, but raising awareness is another thing we are proud of.”
