Torquay Cowrie Market returns to Esplanade
TORQUAY’S Esplanade was once again lined with stalls and inundated with eager marketgoers on Sunday, as one of the town’s biggest markets made its return to the coast.
The Torquay Cowrie Market returned to Elephant Walk over the weekend for the commencement of market season with over 140 stalls on display.
Organiser and committee member Tania Bartlett said hundreds of residents and visitors down in Torquay for the weekend enjoyed a vast array of locally created products.
“Sunday really set the tone for the rest of our market season as the first market is generally the smallest, and it will only get bigger in the lead-up to Christmas,” Ms Bartlett said.
“It’s really encouraging for us to see as a committee and we consider it an amazing start, a lot of our stallholders rely on out-of-town visitors, so we’re excited for it to get bigger and better than ever before.”
One of the major changes for the Torquay Cowrie Market was its online approach, with a lot of stallholders providing positive feedback to the committee on its pre-paid booking system.
The markets will be held on the third Sunday of each month for the next seven months.
The next Torquay Cowrie Market will be held on October 15 back at Torquay’s Elephant Walk.
