MORE than 300 people attended the 2023 Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup raising $10,655 to support the work of Shory Park, Australia’s leading off the track thoroughbred retraining and rehoming group.

Local businesses and community members enjoyed an exciting racing at the Geelong Racing Club for the eleventh anniversary of the popular annual meet.

Times News Group managing director Warick Brown said the event was once again a fantastic outing for all involved.

“As always, the Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup is a great opportunity for business owners and the community to get together.

“With over 300 people in attendance we were able to raise a significant amount as a fundraising for Shory Park and their Off the Track work at Mount Duneed.”

Major raffle prizes were provided by local businesses and sponsors on the day.

Shory Park owner Nikki Cook thanked the greater Surf Coast, Bellarine and Geelong community for their incredible generosity.

“That money just allows us to pay some feed bills and get some pay in stock for winter, and it takes a massive weight off us – we can order a big truckload of hay now and be sorted for the winter.

“I’m very grateful for the day, and we appreciate the community’s support.”

The winner of the 2400m Bet365 Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup was Poleaxed, jockeyed by Ben Allen.

California Longbow finished second, while Maatsuyker landed on the podium with a third place.
