Torquay Cup raises $17,500 for local community organisations
THE eighth annual Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup hosted at the Geelong Racing Club (GRC) was a roaring success, with punters indulging in the races, raffles, live entertainment and exciting atmosphere.
The charity event and celebration of the 3228 community raised $17,500 for Torquay Food Aid and Torquay Community House.
Surf Coast Times advertising director Warick Brown said the cup had become a much-loved event on the Torquay calendar and served as an opportunity to give back to the Torquay community.
“The Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup is now the second biggest race day at the GRC outside of the Geelong Cup itself. We are proud of what it has become and how it’s transitioned into a big event on the Torquay calendar,” he said.
The Surf Coast Times Torquay Cup was won by four-year-old gelding My Mother Says, ridden by Daniel Stackhouse and trained by John Sadler.
The Surf Coast Times would like to thank the day’s race sponsors, table hosts, raffle prize donators, and Zeally Sands ($2,000), McCartney Real Estate ($1,000) and Liuzzi Property Group ($1,000) for their generous on-the-day donations.
