MS NAOUMIDIS has been part of the Torquay Golf Club for nine years and was the vice president of the club in 2023-24.

Ms Naoumidis is also a member of the Keysborough Golf Club and has competition and women and junior development experience.

She said she was rapt to be taking on the new role.

“It’s great and has been incredibly positive so far.

“It’s been nine years at Torquay, but I’ve only lived here permanently for the last year.

“I got my foot in the door at Keysborough playing golf, which gave me a good overview of how other clubs work.

“My husband and I also play a lot of events all over Victoria too, so we get to see how events are run with Golf Australia and so on.”

She said the key focus for the upcoming year was keeping the club “moving forward.”

“Inclusivity for men and women is important, and we want to have more events where we can all participate.

“There are a lot more men in the club, and while it’s certainly not a men’s club, it’s about getting everyone working together inclusively.”

Outgoing president Peter Oliver said he was rapt with the new appointment.

“It’s terrific. It’s taken us 104 years, but we got there.

“We have put a lot of work in over the past five years to develop this one club philosophy. A place where all men and women can thrive.

“We have been recognised by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club for our women’s participation in the club and gender equality.

“Kathy is the next step in that strategy. She will do a fantastic job.”
