Torquay golfer hopes for twilight tee off
KEEN Torquay golfer Jean-Baptiste Dumas is launching a weekday twilight 9-hole golf league to provide locals with an alternative competition.
The ‘9-Hole In League’ will be tailored to players of all abilities and ages and give locals who can’t get down to the golf course during work hours, the chance to enjoy the sport in a competitive, yet social environment.
Mr Dumas said some Surf Coast residents also struggled to find time to enjoy local courses.
“I don’t really have the time to play competitive golf in the mornings with my work schedule and had heard there was many people in the same boat as me.
“This new league sets out to solve that issue and is a way to create a social sport that is competitive between each player but friendly at the same time.
“Locals will all compete together in the one division, and we plan to have a fun format where you count the points rather than the shots.
“We want to bring a bit of a change and excitement into twilight golf and are still fleshing all of these things out to make the best product possible for local players.”
Mr Dumas said expressions of interest for the twilight league had been very strong so far.
“I’ve been really happy with the local support so far.
“It’s been a half-half split of men and women which is fantastic to see.
“We think the league can help us create a stronger and more inclusive community down here on the Surf Coast.”
Mr Dumas hopes to have the league up and going in Summer 2023/24 and endeavours to pique local golf clubs interest in hosting the league in the coming weeks.
