TORQUAY Lions Club celebrated the successes of the previous financial year and installed new office bearers at its annual changeover dinner.

More than 40 club members came together last week at the Lions Village in Torquay to mark the changing of the guard.

Outgoing president Brian Keane announced the club had donated just under $90,000 to a wide range of organisations and provided direct service to the community.

This included raising $30,000 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, $10,000 for Foundation 61 and $12,00 for the local Torquay and Bellbrae CFA Brigades.

Mr Keane handed the presidency role back into the hands of Colin Bellis.

The latter returns to the lead position after one year off and looks forward to ensuring his local Lions unearth new ways to raise funds for those in need.

He outlined his theme of “building communities” as being a top priority heading into 2024-25.

“We are striving to increase the number of members, which in turn means we can do even more for our local community,” Mr Bellis said.

“We will be also looking to expand the Lions contribution into some of the new growth areas.

“Our aim is to have a club which is inclusive, kind and cohesive. We will build on the past and build for the future.”

Zone chair Allen Osman was presented with the Lions’ top honour, a Melvin Jones Fellowship, for his outstanding work in the community.

Bill Ferguson was honoured with the Lion of the Year Award for his social media work.

Anne Sullivan was inducted into Torquay Lions Club.

The Torquay Lions Club office will feature Ross Yapp (leadership chair), Catherine Rowe (service chair), Brian Keane (membership chair), Ken Farrow (secretary and website) and Deb Law (treasurer).
