PEOPLE in the Surf Coast and around the world paused briefly on Sunday to reflect on the horrors of war as part of commemorations for the 100th anniversary of Remembrance Day.

In the Surf Coast, the major service was held at the Point Danger memorial by the Torquay RSL, and featured performances by a band from the Salvation Army and a flypast of historic aircraft.

Torquay RSL members also ran commemorative services at aged care facilities in Torquay and Anglesea, and at schools in Torquay and Bellbrae.

This year is the 100th anniversary of the Armistice to end World War I, which was signed at 11am on November 11, 1918.
