THE Recreational Vehicle Fellowship of Rotarians (Southern zone) have held their first fellowship muster for 2023 in Torquay, with more than 65 members enjoying the beautiful beaches, shops and activities available on the Surf Coast.

Held from Thursday (February 16) to Sunday (February 19), the ‘Rotarians’ enjoyed participating in a range of recreational and lifestyle activities during the trip, including walking, visiting the shops and breweries, participating in lawn bowls, driving the Great Ocean Road and hearing from a host of knowledgeable locals who shared their stories about the Surf Coast.

During the muster, the 70 members of the group heard from local Indigenous leader Ashley Skinner, Lorne Historical Society chair Peter Spring and local volunteer palaeontologist, Yestin Griffiths who took the Rotarians for a beach walk to discover Surf Coast fossils.

The Rotarians met and spent time with Surf Coast Shire Council Mayor Liz Pattison who officially launched the Muster Thursday morning.

Rotary Club of Torquay member John Oswald OAM said the Rotarians thoroughly enjoyed visiting the area and exploring the great things the Surf Coast has to offer.

“It was a really great meeting, and the weather was just excellent for us for us to explore the fascinating details of the Great Ocean Road and Surf Coast fossils,” Mr Oswald said.

“Everyone had a really good time and saw the Surf Coast in the most favourable light.

“A big thanks to the Torquay Caravan Park for providing its very large and well-equipped business centre and kitchen for our meetings, and very generously supporting all our endeavours.

“The muster was a win-win all round.”
