THE Torquay RSL has a new president for the first time in five years, with Bob Tyler stepping aside and Bob Brackin elected in his place.

At its annual general meeting, held at the Torquay Bowls Club earlier this month, Mr Tyler vacated his positon for the election of a new president, with Mr Brackin taking up the role.

“I’ve been president for five years,” Mr Tyler said.

“It has been a time of satisfaction, stress and success.

“With my committee, many projects for veterans have been completed, with more still to be achieved.

“I congratulate incoming president Bob Brackin, who, I am certain, will continue to ensure veterans needs are met, and satisfactory accommodation for the RSL will become a reality.

“I wish Bob and his committee all the best for the next 12 months as they grapple to improve conditions, services and benefits for our veterans and their families.”

Mr Brackin promised he and his committee would never lose sight of their role in helping veterans enjoy a quality of life that they and their families deserve.

“Veterans are what this sub-branch is all about,” he said.

“For as long as I have been in Torquay, and especially as a committee member over past years, I can assure members our prime mission is caring for veterans and their families.

“As a new president, I and my team, will continue the good work that has been done so far and hope to instil an atmosphere that encourages our advocates and other members to attract new, younger veterans, and build on Torquay’s reputation of being a caring organisation.”

The Torquay RSL held its annual general meeting at the Torquay Bowls Club on April 2.

Mr Tyler will work closely with the committee as immediate past president for the next 12 months to help the new committee transition into their roles.

Torquay RSL’s incoming committee is:

  • President – Bob Brackin
  • Vice-president – Rob Cuthill
  • Immediate Past President – Bob Tyler
  • Secretary – Daryll Topp
  • Treasurer – Greg Stokes
  • Assistant treasurer – Jim Muller
  • Committee members – Greg Collins, Maurie Dale, Phil Pickering, Lyle Raison, and Ala Sikorski.
