Torquay RSL Senior Vice President Christine Tyler receives a Certificate of Appreciation from Secretary Daryll Topp for her volunteer efforts supporting club members throughout the past year. Among her efforts, Christine was also a badge seller in the lead up to Anzac Day.

TORQUAY RSL Sub-branch has raised a record $11,800 through Anzac badge sales in Torquay during April.

Torquay RSL President Bob Tyler said the wonderful support from the community was greatly appreciated by those tending to welfare needs in the region.

At a morning tea for volunteers and organisations who had helped with badge sales and Torquay’s Anzac Day Dawn Service, Mr Tyler presented Certificates of Appreciation to those involved.

“More than ever before, the money raised this year shows the generosity of the community towards its returned service men and women,”

“The people of Torquay really dug deep in their support of the Anzac Badge Appeal once again,” he said.

“All of the $11,800 will be dedicated to welfare work in and around Torquay.

“There is a growing need to support more of our ex-service men and women and to also support war widows who have need for help.”

Mr Tyler particularly thanked all who had helped sell badges.

“Some local traders displayed badges on their counters, and their support helped keep Torquay’s sales at a high level,” he said.

Mr Tyler also thanked local Appeal Organiser RSL Member Allen Osman and his volunteer sellers for their efforts.

“Allen did a great job organising sellers for every day leading up to Anzac Day and replenishing sales points to make sure sellers did not run out of stock.”

Mr Tyler said the efforts of the sellers were greatly appreciated.

“None complained at the hours they staffed selling points in Torquay. They are a great bunch of people dedicated to helping ex-service people and war widows.”
