THE TORQUAY Surf Life Saving Club are making Torquay Surf Beach accessible for everyone thanks to a new beach cruiser wheelchair.

Torquay Surf Life Saving Club President Julian Sweeney said the new wheelchair was an important addition to the club’s equipment prior to an expected busy season.

“The beach cruiser wheelchair is going to give people that wouldn’t usually have access to the beach, the resources to enjoy their visit,” Sweeney said.

“We’ve had experiences lately, where it’s been tricky to get people to the water, particularly due to the ramp being washed away and the rocks becoming more prevalent.

“Now, we will be able to safely get people of all abilities from the ramp and into the water, all they have to do is ask and one of our lifeguards, members or club officials will help get them in.”

Torquay SLSC thanked the Surf Coast Shire Council for its contribution.

The beach cruiser wheelchair is available at Torquay SLSC for people to use this summer.

To enquire, contact the Torquay SLSC office on 5261 4110 or talk to a lifeguard or patrol member on the beach today.
