THE Surf Coast Century is quickly approaching, and among those participating in the team relay is a group of practitioners from event sponsors Torquay Sports Medicine Centre.

One of the centre’s podiatrists, Madeleine McMahon felt they could take their support for the event a step further, and enter a team themselves.

She said the team wanted to “practice what we preach”, and along with Andy Allan, a physiotherapist, Catherine Allison, an osteopath, and Darcy Meesen, also a physiotherapist, they will be doing just that.

Mr Meesen said he was also glad to ensure the centre was fully involved in the event.

“It’ll be good to represent the community, and encourage people to get out there and get fit.”

The Torquay Sports Medicine Centre is also encouraging people to join the event by giving a $50 voucher for an initial consultation at the centre to all who participate in the event.

But the stunning scenery will provide encouragement enough for many people to partake in the event.

The run, which starts and finishes in Anglesea, takes contestants along beaches, over cliff tops and through bush land over the course of the 50 and 100 kilometre events.

The team relay, which the Torquay Sports Medicine Centre team will be joining in, sees the 100 kilometre route covered by teams of 2-4.

Interest in the Surf Coast Century is higher than ever, with entries up on last year by over 30 per cent and more than 100 people turning up for the latest training session.
