Regional Victoria enjoys tourism boom
THE VICTORIA Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) recently announced that tourism’s contribution to the state’s economy is growing beyond expectations.
VTIC’s International and National Visitor Survey revealed that tourism now contributes almost $31 billion to the Victorian economy. This is a billion dollar increase from last quarter’s results.
VTIC’s data shows this is largely due to the increased tourism in regional tourism.
The number of visitors and nights regional Victoria received shows growth that is more than double the national regional average growth rate.
VTIC chief executive Felicia Mariani said she was pleased to see growth across the state and not simply in Melbourne.
“We are pleased to see record results for Regional Victoria in key measures, realising our efforts to promote tourism experiences outside of Melbourne and firmly positioning Regional Victoria as a standout in these latest results.”
In June this year, VTIC had reported that tourism in regional Victoria had increased by 12 per cent from the previous quarter.
The Victorian Government’s Visitor Economy Strategy’s has set the target of the state’s visitor economy being worth $36.5 billion by 2025.
