Town caught in a snap

June 13, 2018 BY

Mackenzie Stapleton joined Jesse Stapleton (winner 13-17), Jasper Girvan, Jack Grainger, Jim Bodsworth (winner 9-12), Louise Bodsworth (winner 5-8) and judge Cathy Phelan with special guest Cr Libby Coker for the Young Photographer Competition announcement on May 18.

ASPIRING photographers across the Surf Coast have taken snaps that encompass the theme ‘What I love about my town’ as part of the Anglesea Community Houses (ACH) Young Photographer Competition.

Ann Wingad from the ACH said entrants from Anglesea, Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven, Moggs Creek and Eastern View compiled a portfolio of three photographs capturing the environment, landscape, friends or family in black/white or colour taken with either a camera or a smartphone.

“This was a perfect opportunity for young, aspiring photographers to express their ideas through the medium of photography and then present their finished product to be judged on technical merit, content and composition, imagination and style,” she said.

“Well, the standard of entries was truly inspiring. Judges Cathy Phelan and Rebecca Hosking were extremely impressed with the entries.”

The judges said the entrants had “beautifully” and “thoughtfully” captured the theme in a “terrific array of images of our beautiful Surf Coast”.

“Anglesea and surrounding areas have been so well represented through the eyes of our youth, and it has been so good to see these young people out and about searching for new ways to capture the beauty of where they live,” Ms Phelan said.

Louise Bodsworth won the five to eight years category, Jim Bodsworth the nine to 12 years accolade and Jesse Stapleton the 13-17 years group with each winner taking home a cash prize and a gift voucher for the respective runners up.

All entrants and their families were invited to an opening night reception on May 18 with special guest Anglesea Ward councillor Libby Coker, who made the presentations.

The photographs are on display at the Anglesea Community House, 5 McMillan Street, Anglesea.
