Triathletes brave wild weather at Port

ATHLETES braved gale-force wind and cooler conditions for Portarlington’s leg of the 2017/18 2XU Triathlon Series on Sunday.

Formerly known as the Gatorade Triathlon Series, Race Five featured a unique distance of 800m/26km/8km throughout the seaside town.

Shorter options included the Fun Tri (300 metres/10 kilometres/3 kilometres) and Tri Kids (100 metres/3 kilometres/500 metres).

The winner of the men’s sprint was Mitchell Kibby with one hour, 20 minutes and six seconds, while Leigh Anderson-Voigt finished second with one hour, 20 minutes and 18 seconds, and Nathan Buschkuehl came third with one hour, 21 minutes and 54 seconds.

The winner of the women’s sprint was Tamsyn Moana-Veale with one hour, 29 minutes and 31 seconds, while Kate Bramley came in second with one hour, 34 minutes and 21 seconds, and Emma Hogan third with one hour, 34 minutes and 59 seconds.

The event is one of Australia’s longest running triathlons.
