Trio of Winchelsea projects near completion
THE completion of a trio of council-led projects in Winchelsea is sure to help enhance active and healthy living for local residents.
Winchelsea’s new pool, Adventure Play Space and Barwon River Pool are all scheduled for opening in early 2025.
The upgrades from the Surf Coast Shire will significantly improve the town’s Barwon Terrace riverside precinct, turning it into a popular community meeting spot for people of all ages.
The $8.2 million pool redevelopment is set to provide a strong town centrepiece, with new 25-metre and program pools, a splash park and amenities set to feature.
The much-loved former pool was decommissioned in March having reached the end of its serviceable life after 60 years.
Tiling is now under way for the new 25-metre lap pool, while the base for the splash pad has been constructed ahead of landscaping works commencing.
The pool’s adjoining Adventure Play Space is under construction, promising fun times ahead for youngsters.
When finished, the park will include a flying fox with wheelchair access and accessible seat, elevated cubby pods and an embankment slide.
A new bridge and two riverbanks viewing platforms will soon be constructed on the Barwon River Loop, with installations scheduled for completion by February.
When complete, the upgrades will help to form a two-kilometre path between Winchelsea’s four quadrants, helping to better connect the community with the river environment.
Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Robyn Seymour said the shire was proud to be delivering the three important projects.
“Each of these projects has involved significant community input which has helped shape them.
“We thank community members for having provided valued input and look forward to the developments bringing health and recreational benefits for families and individuals for decades to come.”
New gathering space shelter and surrounds will be reopened during November following landscaping including building of paths, garden beds and an access ramp from Barwon Terrace.
