U3A Surf Coast to offer new courses
RETIREES and new local residents are being encouraged to enrol in new classes, activities and lectures being offered by not-for-profit organisation U3A Surf Coast.
The Surf Coast group will offer music, creative writing, grammar, nonfiction book club, poetry of the Surf Coast, politics, computer skills and yoga sessions.
Local musician Gerard Hogan will lead the Pluckin, Chuckin and Strummin music class this year.
The structured sessions will balance skill refinement, jamming and performance.
“The new program is designed for string instrument players who want to have fun playing together while exploring a variety of genres and techniques.
“The focus will be on fostering musical joy, enhancing ensemble playing and encouraging individual expression in a relaxed and supportive environment, rather than emphasising theory.
“Ultimately, the group might also perform at open mic sessions and perhaps accompany a local singing group in performance.”
Members will need to have their own instrument and music stand.
The sessions will be run at a range of venues across Torquay.
