User pay system introduced for new bins

The City of Greater Geelong is introducing a “user pays” system for anyone wanting an extra household bin. From July 1, any new applications from households for additional bins will be charged a yearly fee ($135 for garbage bins, $48 for recycling bins and $62 for green bins). Cr Peter Murrihy said the user pays system is about cost recovery, and any cost increases would be in line with the cost of the service only. There are about 1,110 requests for extra bins every year.
