Vandalism damages coastline

January 10, 2018 BY

SPATE of vandalism at Whites Gap Torquay, Spring Creek and around Anglesea has left the Great Ocean Road Coast Committee (GORCC) disheartened.

Caleb Hurrell, GORCC’s coastal reserves manager, said the conservation team was disappointed to find the senseless vandalism and damage to conservation efforts.

“Illegal access and campfires have been discovered near sensitive vegetation, causing significant environmental damage,” Mr Hurrell said.

“We are calling on the community to help put an end to the damage caused by illegal party sites at Whites Gap, Spring Creek and around Anglesea.”

Mr Hurrell said acts of mindless vandalism were disrespectful and dangerous to everyone in the community.

“We urge anyone with information to report any sightings of people accessing these protected areas, lighting fires and destroying vegetation,” Mr Hurrell said.

“We’re asking everyone to help us catch these vandals and dob in a dill.”

GORCC encourages anyone who has seen or heard anything in relation to this or any other damage along our coastline to phone 5220 5055 or email them at [email protected].
