THE community is being asked for its views about the future of the mixed-use site on top of the Torquay Angling Club at Fishermans Beach.

Bomboras has held a licence to run a food and beverage operation at the site for the past seven years under a trial arrangement, while maintaining community access to the viewing platform that overlooks the beach.

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) says it wants to better understand how community members use and value the site.

This will help inform a new concept design for the site, which will include a food and beverage offering and community use zone.

The consultation does not include other tenancies or the use of the Fishermans Beach precinct.

“We know that locals and visitors love Fishermans Beach – whether it’s for walking, enjoying a cup of coffee, or simply taking in the stunning views,” GORCAPA director of community, corporate affairs and visitor economy Andy Mathers said.

“We want to keep a food and drink offering here that really fits with what the community wants and needs.

“There are opportunities to improve accessibility and best match the design of the site to meet community needs.

“This is one of several projects we have under way to improve Fishermans Beach for the local community and visitors alike.”

Consultation on the site opened today (Friday, August 9) at haveyoursay.greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au/fishos-platform and will be open until September 1.

Drop-in sessions will also be held on-site on August 24 from 1pm to 3pm, and August 30 from 7am to 9am.

GORCAPA says an upgrade to the Fishermans Beach car park and surrounds is also progressing, with construction to be completed later this year.
