CALMING virtual skylights have been introduced to two University Hospital Geelong radiation rooms following a generous $60,000 donation from the Firefighters Charity Fund.

The installation of virtual skylights to treatment rooms will create a visually pleasant space for patients while they undergo radiation procedures.

The “calming and peaceful” environment created by the skylights will enhance the relaxation of patients, leading to less move movement and more targeted treatment.

Barwon Health Foundation acting executive director, Francis Trainor said the skylights would become a focal point, bringing the same positive feelings of laying under a tree on a summer day.

The virtual skylights will bring calm to local cancer patients.

“The Foundation is so thankful for the support of the Firefighters Charity Fund,” she said.

“The innovation of the virtual skylights can help lessen the anxiety of patients whilst attending appointments and make the clinical environment more pleasant while doing so.

“This generous support will have immeasurable positive impact on the comfort and care of local cancer patients.”
