Volunteer at next month’s Volleyfest
THE callout is on for volunteers to be part of the biggest international beach volleyball festival which will spike itself into Torquay next month.
The new Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest is set to kick off on November 23 and will culminate on December 4, bringing the world’s best volleyballers to the shores of the Surf Coast for 11 days of non-stop action.
Local residents will have a chance to be a part of history by joining a huge team of volunteers who will assist in event management, competition delivery, transport and athlete service spaces during the festival.
Volleyball Australia CEO Andrew Dee said that the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest will be the largest showcase of the sport since the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and will provide an exciting opportunity for locals to get involved through various volunteer positions.
“We have some really special volunteering opportunities for the local [Surf Coast] community to be part of the Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest,” Dee said.
“Volunteers will not only have the chance to be part of an international sporting event in their backyard but also the chance to get up close to great sporting action.
“We have so many exciting opportunities for people of all ages to get involved and you don’t need any beach volleyball knowledge.
“You’ll have the chance to meet new people from across Australia and the globe as well as to be part of Torquay’s newest international sporting event.”
The festival is set to feature three high profile events including the Volleyball World Pro Tour Elite 16 and Challenge tournaments, and the opening round of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour.
Australia will be well equipped for the tournament with Olympic and Commonwealth Games silver medalists Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar and recently crowned gold medalists from the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Chris McHugh and Paul Burnett all pulling on the green and gold.
