Volunteer groups unite for beach patrol season
THE Jan Juc SLSC is feeling fuelled up and ready for an exciting patrol season after launching a new partnership with Torquay Food Aid.
The patrol season program, which launched last weekend, will provide healthy meals and cold drinks to the club’s dedicated patrol volunteers each weekend.
Supported by a generous member donation, the initiative underscores the club’s commitment to the wellbeing of its volunteers and the local community both on and off the beach.
Jan Juc SLSC president Brett Thompson said the partnership not only offers wholesome meal choices to volunteers, but also supports the admirable work of volunteer groups like Torquay Food Aid.
“Our volunteer life savers dedicate their time and skills to ensure the safety of beachgoers at our busy surf beach,” he said.
“It’s imperative for us to support them in every way we can.
Providing healthy meal options during their patrols is a token of our gratitude and a reflection of our commitment to their wellbeing.”
Mr Thompson said the partnership would help lifesavers handle the demands of their jobs.
“We believe well-nourished volunteers are better equipped over what can be very challenging conditions throughout the summer period.
“It’s a huge win for us, and one Torquay Food Aid is thrilled about as well.”
