Wait continues for intersection completion
THE Surf Coast Highway, Rosser Boulevard, and Coombes Road intersection upgrade is still not complete with the activation of new traffic lights awaiting commissioning by Powercor.
Designed to enhance connectivity and safety, this project includes extending Rosser Boulevard to intersect with the highway and installing new traffic lights, bicycle lanes, and bus stops.
The works aim to improve access to the Surf Coast Highway for residents of Torquay North and introduce a signalised pedestrian crossing.
Although the highway lanes were reopened in December, limitations persist.
At the moment, only left turns in and out are allowed between Coombes Road and the highway. Rosser Boulevard will remain shut until the traffic lights become operational.
In an online statement, the Surf Coast Shire attributed the dealy to the requirement for Powercor to commission the traffic lights and lighting.
“For safety reasons, the traffic lights and public lighting need to be commissioned by Powercor before Council can fully open the intersection,” the shire stated.
“Council is awaiting a date from Powercor for this, which may not occur until late April/early May.”
Following the commissioning, Coombes Road and Rosser Boulevard will be fully accessible to the highway.
Meanwhile, a temporary speed limit of 60kmh is being enforced to ensure safety until the intersection is fully operational.
