Waralily Christmas Spectacular will go ahead

November 16, 2020 BY

Waralily Christmas Spectacular will go ahead this year.

ARMSTRONG Creek calendar favourite, the Warralily Christmas Spectacular, will go ahead as a combination of traditional (where COVID allows) and pre-recorded performances broadcast to the community on social media.

Warralily-Newland Community Development Officer Nina Bendon said she was encouraged to go ahead with event after chatting to residents. “There is a resounding call for it to continue. After all – it is Armstrong Creek’s most loved event of the year” She said.

The event will look a little different this year with some performances pre-recorded on a stage in a private location. Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corinna Eccles will present a dreamtime story alongside performances from the Mik Maks and local musicians. There will also be art classes by local resident Kat Fox and dance classes in the park by Geelong Dance Movement.

Now in its eighth year, the event has continued to grow. In 2019, 3,000 people attended the event, helped along by thirty volunteers.

“It’s basically a deconstructed Waralilly Christmas Spectacular” Ms Bendon said, “Instead of over one day we are spreading it over the month!” Ms Bendon said.

“Even though this eighth year of the event will be different we are still promoting community connection, celebrating local artists and businesses and still a great way to

celebrate how proud we are of our community”

Despite the new event format, Ms Bendon confirmed that Mr December himself, Santa Clause, will be performing too. The early December event is often his first sighting in the Greater Geelong region.

While Oberon High School and St Catherine of Siena wont be involved in this Spectacular, Ms Bendon confirmed they will be involved again next year.
