Waves of resilience
OCEAN Mind have held their first surf therapy carnival at Anglesea’s Surf Beach, with more than 30 young locals coming together for an epic day of catching waves, having fun and building resilience.
Sponsored by the Give Where You Live Foundation, the event aimed to encourage young people to challenge themselves in and out of the water, helping to build their wellbeing and persistence in all facets of their lives.
The judging criteria for the surfing heats revolved all around fun, with points awarded for things such as longest waves, tricks on waves, dance moves and the best tandem waves.
There was also an award for the best wipeout, encouraging young members to embrace the rises and falls that come with surfing.
Ocean Mind chief executive officer and founder Rachael Parker said the day was filled with fun and positivity.
“The event was a barrel of laughs, with the young surfers and mentors catching waves and having a blast in the water,” Ms Parker said.
“Without the support of sponsors like Give Where You Live, events like this wouldn’t be possible.
“It’s fantastic to see businesses and organisations coming together to support causes like surf therapy and helping young people build resilience and wellbeing.
“We hope that events like this will encourage more people to get involved with Ocean Mind and supporting us.”
