Still time to roll out wheelie good art

September 10, 2020 BY

Get creative on your wheelie bins, upload your photo to social media and tag @SurfCoastArtsTrail, or use the hashtag #SurfCoastBinArt and the council will create an online gallery of wheelie bin art.

BRIGHTEN up your street, connect with neighbours and add some extra beauty to the day of the rubbish collector during
lockdown by turning your wheelie bin into a work of art.
The fun community project is part of the “Driveway Creations” initiative in PORTAL (the Surf Coast Shire’s online arts festival and gathering space) and has been extended until the end of this month.
Get creative on your wheelie bins, upload your photo to social media and tag @SurfCoastArtsTrail, or use the hashtag #SurfCoastBinArt and the council will create an online gallery of wheelie bin art.
Entries to Wheelie Bin Art will be judged by a select panel of garbage collectors and a representative from PORTAL, with ‘Garbo’s Choice’ award winners featuring in the annual Surf Coast Shire calendar.
Categories include best individual bin and best street.
The PORTAL team offers these ideas as inspiration:

  • Use some masking tape to create geometric patterns
  • Decorate you bin in the style of your favourite artist: Banksy, Keith Haring, Jackson Pollock, Miro or Mondrian
  • Stick on a family portrait
  • Add a positive affirmation for passers-by
  • Decorative street number or speed limit
  • Stencil art
  • Join in with your neighbours to create an illustrated story on bins along your street.

Please keep your creations clean and family friendly in their content, and make sure you don’t obscure the Surf Coast Shire logo.
Winners will be announced via social media in the first week of October.
