Will Chalmers carves it up at Victorian Interschools
TORQUAY snowboarder Will Chalmers has had a big weekend on the powder against his peers, finishing on the podium twice in this year’s Victorian Interschools SnowSports Championships.
The Geelong Grammar pupil, aged 10, competed in Division 5 (for children in grade 3 and 4) in snowboarding – both Giant Slalom (GS) and Boardercross, Alpine GS and Cross Country in the Victorian Interschools, held at Mount Buller late last month.
First staged in 1958, the Interschools have grown to become one of the premiere school sporting competitions in Victoria.
More than 180 schools compete annually in the event, which is still held at Mount Buller and in recent years has attracted just under 6,000 entries across nine disciplines.
Will won the snowboard boardercross by 0.23 seconds and placed third in snowboard GS, while his team placed third in both cross country events.
He also qualified for this year’s Australian Interschools – held at Perisher in early September – as a team for Alpine, but did not compete in Alpine or Cross Country events due to scheduling clashes with his snowboarding.
Will is a member of the Mount Buller Race Club, where he trains and competes in various events on a weekly basis during snow season.
His podium finishes at Victorian Interschools add to his already successful year, in which he has won the Mt Buller Cup, Mt Buller King of the Mountain event and MBRC Snow Performance Slalom race.
