CONSTRUCTION is set to begin this month on the Surf Coast Shire’s $4.3 million redevelopment of the Winchelsea swimming pool following the demolition of the former facilities at the site.

Works will include the replacement of the 25-metre and leisure pools, along with the construction of a new zero-depth splash park and the renewal of the pool’s concourses and drainage.

A new plant room and amenities building, equipped with an office space, kiosk and first aid capabilities, will also be built at the south-east end of the site located on Barwon Terrace.

The building will create a better connection between the swimming pool complex and the adjoining Adventure Park, as well as a more central point of entry to the site.

“Our pool has been such a valued asset for fun-seeking families and exercise-seeking individuals from across our district for such a long time,” Winchelsea Ward councillor Adrian Schonfelder said.

“This redevelopment will ensure that these activities will continue well into the future.”

The Winchelsea swimming pool closed in March last year after reaching the end of its serviceable life.

One of the town’s historical sites, the aquatic facility had been providing local families and visitors with exercise and fun for 60 years.

Feedback from the local community and a Community Reference Group has informed the designs for the redevelopment and construction is expected to take several months.
