Winchelsea Pool shut its doors
REGARDED as one of the town’s most historical pieces, the Winchelsea Pool has officially closed its doors ahead of a major revamp that will meet the community needs into the future.
After sixty years of providing fond memories for locals and visitors, the facility held its last open day on Monday (March 13) ahead of an uphaul that will include rebuilt heated pools, a new splash park and fresh amenities.
Ahead of a community celebration day on February 19, Surf Coast Shire Councillor Adrian Schonfelder said that the ageing infrastructure and equipment at the site needed to be “renewed so it [could] continue to support the health and wellbeing of locals and visitors.”
“Thank you to the Winchelsea and surrounding community for their support and patience during the upcoming closure and revamp,” Cr Schonfelder said.
“Thank you to community members who have contributed input to the revamp project, including selecting a preferred concept design which proposes to replicate the main pool, enlarge the medium pool and include a new splash park and amenity building.”
Council’s Asset Renewal Program has allocated $4.3 million towards the revamp project over the next two financial years (2022/23 and 2023/24).
