Women celebrate 75 years of achievements at luncheon
MORE than 100 women attended a luncheon in Geelong recently to celebrate 75 years of improving the status of women and children.
The National Council of Women Victoria – Geelong Branch held its 75th Annual Luncheon in the ‘Wurdi Youang’ function room at the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre on June 17.
Helen Rodd gave an historical address covering achievements throughout the 75 years, including how the housing of refugees was fulfilled in some cases within member’s homes in Geelong as far back as the 1940s.
Also, how broken and displaced families were nurtured during and after the war years, and how women’s forums organised across Victoria saw women attain the right to serve on juries.
Barwon Heads CFA captain Helen Wood was a keynote speaker and there was no doubting her dedication, professionalism and focus.
“The tiers of responsibility and training undertaken by our essential services both professional and voluntary,” National Council of Women Victoria – Geelong Branch president Janice Latham said.
“Helen is also the practice manager of Renal Health at Geelong University Hospital.
“Her address was enthusiastically received by all patrons.”
Proceeds from the raffle and donations on the day will see the establishment of a bursary program for students at North Geelong Secondary College.
