Women’s advisory committee seeks new members

THE City of Greater Geelong’s Women in Community Life Advisory Committee is seeking nominations from individuals keen to join the group.

The committee advises the city on women’s participation in all aspects of community life, especially in areas of leadership and gender equity.

The group aims to provide a voice and reference for women across the region that reflects the diversity of the wider community.

Members include people of all abilities, diverse ages, genders, cultures, geographical locations and life experiences.

This is a proactive and dedicated group with focus on achieving positive outcomes of equality, inclusion and respect for women in the Geelong region.

The group is seeking new members that fit the following criteria:
• Commitment to furthering women’s participation, representation and leadership in community life
• Commitment to the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter
• Commitment to advocacy of the Ba-gurrk, A Gender Equity Framework for the Greater Geelong Region
• Involvement in women’s and other networks
• Commitment and time to actively participate on the Committee
• Capacity to feedback, share and promote the work of the Committee to others

“There are many people in our region who are passionate about gender equity and recognising the vital role women play in our community,” the city’s acting director of community life Robyn Stevens said.

“We are calling on you to put your hand up to play a proactive role in improving equality, inclusion and respect for women in our community.

“This group provides effective advice and support to the City, delivering key messages and making an impact on long term decisions that relate to gender equity.

“Don’t miss this opportunity to get involved and have an active role in shaping a more equal and inclusive Greater Geelong community.”
