AN OPPORTUNITY for women to reconnect with one another, nature and physical exercise has emerged after the Walking with Women program announces its return to the Surf Coast.

Founder of Nature Based Therapy, Kit Kline, came up with the initiative in 2017 but says its now more important than ever before.

“I created an event back in September 2017 called Walk with Women on the Surf Coast and due to its success I thought it would be great to make a regular women’s walking group,” she said.

“The original idea came about as I wanted to walk along the coastal paths, however, I didn’t feel safe and I had heard of other women not feeling safe too.

“I believe that this walking group not only allows women to gain physical health but also improve their mental health.

“I have been working in the field of mental health and substance abuse for 20 years and I have seen the benefits of nature-based walk and talk therapy.”

As a mother of four young children, Ms Kline said she is looking forward to connecting with other women.

“2020 has been a tough year for many and has seen people lose jobs, work from home, self-isolate and spend less time in community-based activities,” she said.

Ms Kline believes the Walk with Women program will be an opportunity for participants to connect with both country and community.

“The benefits of these two connections includes higher self-esteem, a sense of belonging and improved physical health through movement,” she said.

Walk with Women is described as an easy stroll that offers walk and talk opportunities to all women.

“Mums can bring prams and there is no need for flashy workout gear, just some comfy clothes, walking shoes and a raincoat on rainy days,” Ms Kline said.

“If people want to be involved, they can meet at the Third Wave Kiosk at 10.30am every Monday and join the group by just turning up.”

Anyone interested is encouraged to follow the Facebook page to keep up-to-date with new walks and activities that may emerge over the year.

“These events will promote locals to get out and explore natural resources close to home to support the COVID response of stay safe, stay home,” she said.
