MORE than 400 runners converged on Lorne at the weekend for the 8th edition of the Wonderfalls Trail Run.

This year’s event was hailed by participants as the most spectacular trail event many had ever experienced.

Set against a backdrop of towering mountain ash trees, dramatic ocean views and iconic waterfalls, participants took on five different course lengths.

For the first time, the event featured an inaugural 75km ultra distance, which was quickly described by participants as an “epic, must do.”

Despite being in the heart of winter, the weather gods smiled, blessing the event with bursts of sunshine and only a few light showers to add to the extra adventure.

Many runners called Wonderfalls their new favourite trail run location, while others praised the inclusive, family-friendly environment.

“It was fantastic to welcome runners and their families back to Lorne for Wonderfalls,” race director Brett Saxon said.

“We’re proud to showcase this part of the Surf Coast and so grateful for the community spirit that makes it all possible.”

With the 2025 edition now in the distance, planning has already begun for next year.

Runners are encouraged to mark August 15, 2026, in their calendars to experience one of Australia’s most spectacular trail running events.
