Works begin to fix important Otways road
REPAIR works on Forrest-Apollo Bay Road have started as part of a $255 million Victorian government initiative to improve the Great Ocean Road and its inland routes.
The works, near Tanybryn, have been brought forward for the safety of motorists travelling along the road due to a landslip, and will take about three months to complete, weather permitting.
They will include constructing a new retaining wall, pavement and barriers to keep motorists safe.
The geotechnical engineering works along Forrest-Apollo Bay Road are essential to improve the longevity of the roadside landscape and improve safety for all road users travelling across the network.
During the summer holiday period, construction will pause on the project and restart in early 2025.
“We know how important the Great Ocean Road and its inland routes are for the local community and the whole state – that’s why we’re getting on with improving road infrastructure,” Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said.
“These works are essential to protect the longevity of the area and improve safety for all road users travelling on this road.”
Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney thanked local communities for their patience during the works.
“Forest-Apollo Bay Road provides vital access to the Great Ocean Road and making it safer will help ensure local business owners, workers, visitors and the community can move freely and safely,” she said.
