Xavier makes finals of Young Achiever Awards

JAN Juc surfer Xavier Huxtable has been announced as a finalist in the Academy Graphics Regional Achiever Award, part of the Victorian Young Achiever Awards. Xavier, 15, is the youngest recipient of the Duke Kahanamoku Award, recognising outstanding performance and sportsmanship at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles. He is the first athlete to win the U/14 and U/16 divisions in consecutive years.

Xavier is a role model to surfers to elevate their sport to elite levels. He is the youngest committee member and volunteers at fundraisers, administration and event management for the Torquay Boardriders Club. The finalists will be presented and winners announced at an awards gala presentation dinner to be held at Flemington – The Event Centre next month.

Each category winner will receive $1,000 into an account in their name from Bank of Melbourne, a $1,000 Bartercard Account and a trophy. One of the 10 category winners will be chosen as the 2018 Victorian Young Achiever of the Year and will receive an additional $2,000 flight voucher from Jetstar and a State trophy.

All finalists will go into the People’s Choice Award presented by NOVA 100, which is run through the “Victorian Young Achiever Awards” Facebook page (facebook.com/VICAYAA) – like the page and vote for your favourite finalist. The winner will be announced at the awards gala presentation dinner and will receive $1,000 worth of concert and movie tickets.
