Local builder takes out prestigious award

JM Homes Surf Coast has been named as the 2021 Master Builders Victoria South West Regional Residential Builder of the Year for their Portarlington project.

Master Builders Victoria chief executive officer Rebecca Casson congratulated JM Homes Surf Coast on their well deserved achievement.

“From any angle, this home has stunning visual appeal, the bold Alpolic eave and the subtle rammed earth complement each other well and have presented a truly outstanding architecturally designed home.

“The external façade is strikingly modern with a twist of mid-century while the upper roof almost has the illusion of floating above the side wings.

“The design had to incorporate family life with the option to separate the living spaces for guests and family hence the upstairs/downstairs split.

“I especially like the working hub of the upstairs kitchen, which captures the views from this exceptional block on top of the hill. It really is the most prominent viewpoint in Portarlington.”JM Homes director Jamie Mills said they were honoured to receive this award knowing how strong the competition was through all categories.

“To win the two top Awards and then to receive Regional Builder of the Year is an honour and an achievement I have always aimed for.

“When we found out we had won, we were all so pleased and I can say quite emotional to be awarded such a prestigious award.

“We would normally have an Award ceremony and celebrate with our peers but unfortunately due to COVID restrictions we were unable to doso.”

JM Homes are also now entered into the 2021 Excellence in Housing Awards competing for Regional Residential Builder Of The Year.

Mr Mills said JM Homes would like to thank all their employees and trades for their efforts in achieving the high standard that they aim for, as without them they could not produce what they do.

He also wanted to make a special thank you to Bernie Lynch for his outstanding effort in supervising the project and also to Philip and Sallie for allowing them to build their dream home.

This award is a highlight in the Mills family’s journey after landing in Torquay 10 years ago where they actually rented out a holiday house that had been awarded Regional Builder of the Year 2011, which planted the seed in Jamie’s head and gave him a goal to aim for.

Along with the Regional Builder Award, JM Homes also took out the top two awards for Best Custom Homes $800-$1m and $1m-$2m.
