A version of this Delta 28 design is likely to be Metricon’s first ZNC display home expected to be ready by mid-2019.

Last week Metricon was appointed a program partner in the state government’s pilot program Zero Net Carbon Homes (ZNC) to develop and market carbon-neutral homes in Victoria.

This pilot program will provide technical and marketing expertise to builders to facilitate the development, marketing and sales of the leading-edge sustainably designed Zero Net Carbon homes.

Sustainability Victoria chief executive officer Stan Krpan said that between now and 2050 an estimated two million new homes will be built in Victoria.

“The volume housing market presents one of the biggest, most readily available and untapped opportunities for emission reductions, cost savings, improved health and wellbeing, as well as productivity in the residential sector,” Mr Krpan said.

“Through the Zero Net Carbon Homes pilot program, volume builders will offer their customers homes that are affordable to heat and cool and provide year-round comfort.

“With more zero net carbon homes, Victoria is diversifying its building stock, stimulating the economy and reducing bills for homeowners.”

Working with Sustainability Victoria and land developers, Metricon will design and construct zero net carbon display homes in one or more of Melbourne’s four growth corridor areas and the Geelong region and Mitchell Shire.

Director and Victorian Housing General Manager at Metricon Homes Peter Langfelder said that Metricon is excited to be a part of this innovative Zero Net Carbon Homes pilot.

“Metricon is mindful of the environmental and social impacts of the building industry and the role we can play in affecting change,” he said.

“We look forward to building energy-efficient homes that contribute to long-term cost savings and improved health and wellbeing for Victorian home occupants.

“The effects of this program will be wide-reaching as more new home buyers discover the benefits of energy efficient housing.

“We anticipate scaling our work in this area based on program learnings.”

Metricon is aiming to have its first ZNC display home ready by mid-2019 with sales for the home available soon after.
