THE size of Jan Juc is approximately 6.2 square kilometres and has 4 parks covering nearly 2.1 per cent of total area.

The population of Jan Juc in 2011 was 3,521 people and by the 2016 Census the population was 3,686 showing a population growth of 4.7 per cent in the area during that time.

Jan Juc’s 5 year change in median price of 58.6 per cent and average ownership period of 16 years shows that this pocket of the coast is tightly held and of great appeal to lifestylers.

The name Jan Juc is thought to be derived from an Aboriginal word to which several meanings have been ascribed: milk, ironbark or goose.

In 1922 the origin of the name Jan Juc became even more confused, as the belief that the name had a German origin caused the upstream Jan Juc to be named Bellbrae.

During the mid-1960s the coastal township of Jan Juc began to be developed and is situated on a coastline close to some of the area’s best surfing beaches and is a few kilometres from Bell’s Beach.

In 1992 there were nearly 1,200 dwellings in Jan Juc and an estimated population of 1,791 persons with about one-third of the dwellings being holiday homes.

Jan Juc is very popular with those who chose to cross the bridge with many being drawn there by the extensive foreshore reserve, beach and recreation facilities that are all joined by a linear park along Jan Juc Creek, and the fact that it’s not Torquay.

CoreLogic data indicates that the predominant age group in Jan Juc is 40-49 years with households in Jan Juc being primarily couples with children and are likely to be repaying $1,800 – $2,399 per month on mortgage repayments, and in general, people in Jan Juc work in a professional occupation.

In 2011, 73.1 per cent of the homes in Jan Juc were owner-occupied compared with 74.2 per cent in 2016.
