Vision of bespoke coastal luxury takes flight
A new benchmark in luxurious apartment living on the Surf Coast enters the market today with the official sales launch of The Esplanade development.
The vision of local couple Angelo and Ana Peixoto, in collaboration with architectural firm Architecton, it offers seven boutique residences combining high-end modern design with a relaxed beachfront lifestyle.
Angelo says the project was thoughtfully designed with local buyers in mind and the couple was determined to create something special on the site at 42 The Esplanade they purchased five years ago.
Construction is anticipated to start in September and take 18 months to complete.
“When we came across the property for sale we thought ‘wow, what a great site – we could build beautiful apartments here facing the ocean and this could be the envy of The Esplanade’,” Angelo remembers.
“We had to sell three properties so we could actually purchase that one so it was a big risk for us financially but we really wanted to design and build something special on The Esplanade so we just went for it, took the gamble and looking at it now, seeing the board up, is very exciting.”
The building’s exterior is a sophisticated blend of concrete, natural textures and geometric framing, while planter boxes add softness from cascading greenery.
The ground floor features retail space which has been approved for a potential cafe or restaurant.
Apartments on level one and two range from 81.7m2 for the smallest two-bedroom option up to 217m2 for the largest four-bedroom residence.
Sophisticated coastal design and a sense of homeliness epitomise the interiors thanks to a mix of earthy tones, abundance of natural light and coveted features such as wool carpets and marble benchtops.
The oversized bedrooms have ample wardrobes and stunning kitchens feature custom cabinetry, sleek appliances and integrated storage.
The oceanfront residences offer sweeping water views and tree canopy glimpses from private balconies where evenings can be spent enjoying a magnificent indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
Angelo says the residences respond equally well on warm summer days and chilly winter evenings.
“Torquay is beautiful in summer but even nicer in winter so fireplaces were a must,” he says.
“It is a testament to Angelo and Ana and the team they worked with,” Tim says.
“They have fi ne-tuned everything to ensure it is a premium product, they haven’t rushed at all and they’ve used the absolute best to come up with a fantastic masterpiece.
“McCartneys have got a long association with Angelo and Ana and we’re really privileged to be offering one of the best developments along the Surf Coast for a long, long time.”
Meanwhile, the original “Gulls Way” weatherboard beach house on the site may be given a second life as the couple is considering either selling it or relocating it onto a country block of land for their own enjoyment.
The Gulls Way sign on the front of the old house will also be restored and given pride of place on the front of the apartment building.
“This building is not a Melbourne building, it is a Torquay building and we’ve done everything in terms of design and construction-wise in terms of the building quality – for it to be something local people can be proud of,” Angelo says.
“When we started this project we said we want to be able to walk past the building in 20 years’ time and feel proud to say we’ve built this, we did this.”
