A BUSY and successful weekend has been completed by Torquay Boardriders Club (TBC) with a team of our members representing us at the Nudie Australian Boardriders Battle in Newcastle as well as our grommets performing to an exceptional standard in the Woolworths Victorian Junior Titles at Gunnamatta.

The Torquay Boardriders team of Xavier Huxtable, India Robinson, Adam Robertson, Todd Rosewall, Harry Mann, Cahill Bell-Warren, Tully Wylie, Jack Perry, Bella Wilson as well as team manager Dave Matthews surfed their way to finishing as the 7th best boardriders club in the country in the Nudie Australian Boardriders Battle.

The event is the biggest grassroots boardriders event in Australia, involving more than 60 of Australia’s best boardriders clubs so to win the Victorian Qualifying Round and then finish with a result at the National Final is something that the whole club should be proud of.

Most members of the team surfed during the weekend in a bid to add points to the end total that is calculated at the end of the weekend.

In the Individual heats on Day 1, Cahill Bell- Warren, India Robinson, Adam Robertson and Xavier Huxtable surfed in the four different divisions putting together some good results to then set the club up for a crack at the teams event on Sunday. Torquay in the first round came up against a firing Avoca BRC, Culburra Boardriders and North Avalon Surfriders Club. Torquay were able to cause a major upset and knock out one of the event favourites in Culburra and place second with some clutch surfing by Harry Mann and Todd Rosewall. This advanced them into the quarter finals in which they came up against past champions and eventual finalists Snapper Rocks and Avoca as well as fellow Victorians Phillip Island Boardriders. At the end of the heat, Torquay were left trailing and finished with a 3rd in the heat, meaning their campaign came to an end.

A great achievement and congratulations to all members involved for a 7th place in the country.

In the Woolworths Victorian Junior Titles we saw the future stars of our club take home a few wins in their respective divisions as well as many members having podium finishes in absolutely pumping waves at Gunnamatta over the weekend.

Congratulations to Willis Droomer who took out the U/14 Boys division, Sara Hickson who won the U/14 Girls, Ethan Huxtable who won the U/16 Boys division and Cole Fox who took out the U/18 Boys division.

That’s a total of 15 of our members making the final of the state titles. A ripping achievement and something that the whole of the Surf-Coast should be proud of.

That’s a wrap, stay cool.
