Adam and Cadel in road conquest

LOCAL athlete Adam Conquest didn’t have to travel far this time for his latest sporting feat.

Ticking off a bucket list item, he rode alongside Cadel in the recent Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road race.

Covering some bitumen together, and enjoying sunshine and a light breeze, Adam chatted with Cadel.

“He’s a fantastic person and I love his energy and passion, especially for this event.”

They share another common element aside from the two-wheeled lycra one, local Torquay resident Adam is himself an elite athlete.

He’s the present and multiple Australian sprint triathlon champion in the 40+ category, multiple Australia age group duathlon champion, Hawaii ironman triathlon competitor, Gatorade triathlon series winner and in his spare time, Torquay Golf in road conquest Club member and pennant player.

Adam has been competing in triathlons at an elite and age group level for nearly 20 years.

It’s afforded him with some amazing experiences and places to compete and holiday in.

“Some of my most memorable include world Switzerland; Catalina Island off the coast of California; Kona, Hawaii; Moorea and Tahiti.

“But I also have fond memories of competing in the Surf Coast international triathlon held in Torquay around 15 years ago.”

The more Adam travels, the more he realises how lucky he is to live and train in Australia, especially Torquay.

“Not only do we have some of the best and most spectacular places to train, it’s all at our doorstep.

“I love jumping on my Cervelo bike and heading down to Wye River along the Great Ocean Road, riding around the tracks between Anglesea and Torquay, running along the Surf Coast trail, an ocean swim at Torquay front beach or paddling my ocean ski along the coast. And when the weather gets a bit sour in winter, you can’t beat the facilities at the RACV resort at Torquay.”
