AFL Barwon to launch junior All Abilities league

AFL BARWON will expand its All Abilities Football pathway with a short four-week long competition catering to junior level footballers.

Last week’s announcement arrives on the back of a successful opening round in this year’s All Abilities Football Netball League season, which enjoyed over 1,000 spectators in attendance.

In a statement, AFL Barwon said

the announcement of a junior All Abilities competition “cements a participation pathway that provides equitable and complete opportunities for more members of our local community”.

“The establishment of a Youth All Abilities Football competition, commencing in late June 2024 will provide more participants the opportunity to play football, within their local community.”

AFL Barwon confirmed the new competition in 2024 will run for four weeks, and provide a positive, safe and inclusive immersion to community football.

The sporting body encouraged players who haven’t played nor had the opportunity to participate previously to consider getting involved.

AFL Barwon stated the competition will expand further to provide more game time opportunity for all participants from 2025.

“This funding supports those with an intellectual disability, to ensure equitable opportunities are possible throughout our region.

“AFL Barwon is extremely grateful of the support from AFL Victoria and Leisure Networks, who have tirelessly contributed to developing this significant pathway expansion, to ensure that more equitable opportunities within our local community.”
